Augsburg Is Committed To Extending Vargas’ Contract Following The Unsuccessful Summer Transfer – Bundesliga

Ruben Vargas did not secure a summer transfer, prompting Augsburg to seek an extension of his contract.

For a long time, it looked like Ruben Vargas would be leaving FC Augsburg during the summer transfer window.

Despite interest from Stade Rennes, Fiorentina, and Galatasaray, a transfer for the Swiss attacking midfielder has not occurred.

With Vargas’ contract expiring at the season’s end, Augsburg is eager to negotiate a new deal to prevent losing him for free.

Following Augsburg’s 3-1 victory over St. Pauli, where Vargas was a starter, sporting director Marinko Jurendic confirmed to Kicker that he aims to initiate talks with the 26-year-old soon.

“The player should see that the club has invested a lot in him,” Jurendic told Kicker, putting pressure on Vargas to sign a new contract.

Vargas joined Augsburg from FC Luzern in 2019.

Köhn looks back on his “storybook” Bundesliga debut and anticipates facing his former club Bayern.

New SV Werder Bremen signing Derrick Köhn was thrilled after scoring the game-winning goal just 125 seconds into his Bundesliga debut yesterday.

The 25-year-old may have more to showcase against his former club, Bayern, in next weekend’s match.

When SV Werder Bremen signed Köhn, a former FC Bayern München academy player, at the end of the transfer window, it was evident that he would need to compete for a starting spot at his first top-flight club. Fellow former German youth international Felix Agu had worked diligently during training camp to secure the left-wingback position in head coach Ole Werner’s 3-5-2 formation.

Despite the intense competition, Köhn made a strong case for himself by scoring the game-winning goal against Mainz on Sunday, finding the net just 15 seconds into his debut. Reflecting on the match in his post-game interview with DAZN, he expressed how perfectly everything fell into place.

“To score in my Bundesliga debut feels very, very good,” Köhn told his interviewer, “I’m experiencing intense happiness. To debut like that is like something out of a storybook.”

“I’m simply happy for the team,” Köhn went on to say, “And I hope it continues like this. Next week [at home against former club Bayern] is a huge match for us. We want to put in a good performance and are looking forward to it.”

Köhn’s Debut Goal Secures Victory for Werder Bremen Despite Red Card

Ole Werner: “We didn’t get off to a great start, but then took the lead early on from the spot with our first real chance on goal. We then did well for the remainder of the first half — it’s tough to play in Mainz, as evidenced by their long unbeaten run, and they pressed us hard. Although it might have felt frantic, we had the game under control, but just didn’t play well coming back out at half time. Going a man down then changed the game again. To be able to go on to win the game is testament to the spirit of the team — it was a really cool performance.”

Marvin Ducksch: “Our counter-attacks were strong and we were solid at the back as well. That’s why I believe that it was a deserved win. After my goal, I ran to celebrate with my best friend, as it’s his birthday today and that was my gift to him. We knew what we’d be up against in Mainz and did exactly what we’d set out to do. Although it could have been better in some areas, to be able to win after going down to ten men really shows the spirit we have as a team.”

Jens Stage: “It was a frantic game, with lots of duels and very intense, so it was a good showing from us today. Everyone fought until the end, even after we were down to ten — in a situation like that, sometimes you end up finding extra motivation. We could have scored more goals during the first half, and we defended extremely well in the second half. I’m very proud of the team.”

Derrick Köhn: “For it to be my first Bundesliga game and to score after 125 seconds is definitely a great feeling. Romano Schmid also did well to see me making the run in that moment. It’s just like in a storybook, and I’m delighted for the team. Next week, we have another big game coming up against Bayern.”
