Justin Njinmah is set to be sidelined for up to six weeks due to a ligament injury. SV Werder Bremen will have to cope without Njinmah in the upcoming weeks.
The forward sustained an ankle injury in the sixth minute of Werder’s away victory against Mainz, following a foul that led to Marvin Ducksch’s penalty goal.
Manager Ole Werner stated that Njinmah is expected to be out for four to six weeks after his injury on Sunday against Mainz.
“Njinmah is out for four to six weeks with a ligament injury. Bad news for us, but especially for Justin. After his long absence at the end of the season, he was just about to be back at 100 percent.”
“This is bad news for us, but especially for Justin,” said Werder Bremen coach Ole Werner.
“After his long absence at the end of the season, he was on the verge of getting back to 100 percent. We will give him all the support we can on his way back to the pitch.”
Njinmah is set to be sidelined for about a month after sustaining an injury in the previous match, where he was substituted in the 13th minute. This adds to his unfortunate streak of injuries, as he ended last season on the bench. He will aim for a swift recovery without setbacks, hoping to return by the end of October. In the meantime, Keke Maximilian Topp is expected to see increased playing time while Njinmah is out.
Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer has shared his thoughts on the duo’s future. When asked about Goretzka during a media event, the goalkeeper responded, “I wish him all the best, and of course I want him to be on the pitch with us. He’s helped us a lot and is a really great player. But in the end, I don’t make these decisions.”
When asked about de Ligt’s future amid reports linking the center-back with a move to Manchester United, Neuer said, “I’ve always been very happy with him in the side. He’s a real defender who likes to tackle, gets involved in aerial duels, and is always there. But of course, the club makes the decisions.”
Neuer’s comments indicate he would be happy for the duo to stay. While Goretzka is with the Bayern Munich squad in South Korea for their pre-season tour, de Ligt will return to the club’s training ground on Friday following his post-Euro 2024 break to undergo his performance diagnostics tests. It remains to be seen whether his move to Manchester United will go through, although the two clubs are still in talks. The Dutch defender is keen to make the switch to the Premier League side.
Manuel Neuer has endorsed Leon Goretzka, encouraging him to reclaim his spot in the Bayern Munich lineup.
Since Vincent Kompany took over as Bayern Munich coach in the summer, Leon Goretzka has slipped down the pecking order at the Bavarian club.
The experienced midfielder has been left out of Bayern’s squad multiple times, most recently for Saturday’s 6-1 win over Holstein Kiel.
Although Goretzka’s situation looks bleak right now, Bayern captain Manuel Neuer still believes that the 29-year-old has a role to play for the club.
“He has always been an important part of things. That’s why everyone wants him back on the pitch with us. I believe in him,” said Neuer at a press conference ahead of Bayern’s Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.
“He’s completely motivated. You see that in every training session. I’m convinced his
time will come.”
With Sacha Boey having picked up a long-term injury, Goretzka is at least set to return to the Bayern squad.
“We had to leave one player at home against Kiel. Now Sacha Boey is out, so there’s no need for that question,” said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany when asked about Goretzka’s role on Monday.
“Focus before the game is fully on the game. We need positive energy.”
