In his pregame press conference, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany emphasized his respect for Dinamo Zagreb, stating that his team approaches both Dinamo Zagreb and FC Barcelona in the same way.
“It’s a talented, technically strong team. They’re used to having the ball a lot in the final third and finding gaps that way. It’s a team that’s good at defending the box, they don’t give up much space. We want to push through our game. Hopefully that will bring us success,” said Kompany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I can’t differentiate too much between individual games. There should be no difference between Zagreb and Barcelona. We want to achieve our goals in every game and get points. We know the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses. That’s our priority.
“The dream is there for the fans, they can dream. The most important thing for me is that we show it on the pitch. We have a difficult game tomorrow. The important thing is that we play well and win tomorrow. We hope that the fans can dream [of the final] for a long time.”
Of course, Kompany will have to deal with the right-back situation, given that Sacha Boey is out for “weeks.”
“We have options. We’ll think about it again this evening. We don’t have much time. It’s a pity for Sacha, he was in good form. We hope he comes back quickly. I’ll not reveal now who will play [at right-back] tomorrow,” said Kompany. “Josip will still be out for a while. We wish him well. He has established himself in the league and developed well. We miss him. We don’t want to rush anything, the most important thing is that he gets completely fit again.”
Ultimately, Kompany was asked about what he would wear on the sidelines the next day, but it was evident that he hadn’t given much thought to his outfit.
“I didn’t expect this question. I haven’t thought about it for a second. I’m preparing for the game just like I did the last game against Kiel and the next one against Bremen. It’s still football, we have to play the game,” Kompany noted.
At a press conference on Monday, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was asked about his plans for the right-back position after losing Sacha Boey to injury.
Bayern Munich announced on Monday that Sacha Boey will be out for several weeks after suffering a knee injury in training.
This leaves Bayern without their two main right-backs. Josip Stanisic is already sidelined and expected to be out until November.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Bayern’s Champions League opener against Dinamo Zagreb, head coach Vincent Kompany was asked how he plans to cope with Boey’s absence.
“We have options. We’ll think about it again tonight. It’s a quick turnaround. We don’t have much time. It’s a shame for Sacha. We was in good form. We hope he comes back quickly.”
There are two options: Either Kompany moves Joshua Kimmich from midfield to right-back, or he leaves him in midfield and gives Konrad Laimer a chance on the right side of the defense.
On the eve of the match, the Bayern boss wouldn’t go into detail about who he plans to start at right-back against Dinamo Zagreb but said:
“It’s about the boys fighting. When good players play, then there’s the chance of winning is great. We’ve won three games now. We need to keep doing. Only focus is only on that.”
