Gary Neville has shared his thoughts ahead of the highly anticipated Premier League showdown between Liverpool and Chelsea at Anfield.
Current league leaders Liverpool will host an in-form Chelsea on Sunday afternoon in what promises to be the highlight of the weekend’s fixtures.
Liverpool have enjoyed a fantastic start under new manager Arne Slot, who took over from Jurgen Klopp. The team has won six of their first seven league games this season, establishing themselves as early title contenders.
However, some skepticism remains around Liverpool’s title prospects due to the relatively easier opponents they’ve faced in this run. Their victories have come against teams like Ipswich Town, Brentford, Manchester United, Bournemouth, West Ham, and Wolves.
Despite this, Liverpool’s form has been undeniably strong, with their only slip-up coming in mid-September when they were stunned by a home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
As it stands, Liverpool are one point ahead of both Manchester City and Arsenal, and four points clear of Chelsea. Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea will have the opportunity to narrow the gap at Anfield this weekend.
Chelsea, under former Leicester City manager Maresca, were expected to go through some growing pains. However, they have defied those expectations, going unbeaten in six games following an opening-day loss to Manchester City.

Chelsea have emerged as one of the most thrilling and dynamic teams in the Premier League this season, showcasing their attacking prowess by scoring six goals against Wolves in August and netting four against Brighton last month.
However, despite Chelsea’s strong form, Gary Neville anticipates a challenging afternoon for the west London club at Anfield. He believes that Liverpool, with their current momentum, will prove too formidable for the Blues to overcome in this high-stakes clash.
Revealing his prediction on The Overlap, Neville said: ‘I think Liverpool beat them. I think Chelsea, they’re a bit younger… I think Liverpool win 3-1.

‘I think it will be a big atmosphere that day, I think Chelsea will just… Liverpool can be a humbling place. It’s the first time this Chelsea team are going there.’
Premier League icon and former England striker Alan Shearer has also shared his perspective on the highly anticipated showdown at Anfield this Sunday.
‘Chelsea will be happy to walk away from Anfield with a point, despite the injury to Alisson,’ Shearer told Betfair.
‘I know they dropped points in their last home game vs Forest, but I would imagine Enzo Maresca would snap your hands off for a point here.
“The crucial contest will take place in midfield, where I believe Liverpool have shown real strength. Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister have been outstanding, along with Dominik Szoboszlai.
The international break adds an element of uncertainty, as it’s always tricky to gauge how players will return—whether they’re fully ready to start or still recovering from the demands of international duty.”
‘If everyone is fit and everyone plays, that midfield battle will be key, and I think Liverpool will come out on top.’
Liverpool thumped Chelsea 4-1 in this fixture last season. The match at Stamford Bridge finished 1-1.
Anfield manager Arne Slot faces the possibility of being without key players Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, and Kostas Tsimikas for the upcoming match against Chelsea. Their absence could significantly impact the team’s strategy and performance, especially considering the importance of this fixture. Meanwhile, Chelsea will also be without two important players, as Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella are both suspended for the game. Their respective absences will likely affect Chelsea’s defensive setup, making this an intriguing matchup as both teams adapt to the challenges posed by these missing players.
