On Saturday, Manchester United suffered a last-minute 2-1 loss to Brighton, while Erling Haaland’s hat-trick led Manchester City to a commanding 4-1 victory over Ipswich.
Manchester United suffered a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Brighton after a last-minute goal. Erling Haaland’s hat-trick helped Premier League champions Manchester City secure a 4-1 victory over Ipswich on Saturday. Erik ten Hag’s team was stunned by Joao Pedro’s decisive goal five minutes into stoppage time at the Amex Stadium. United initially fell behind due to a 32nd-minute goal by Danny Welbeck, who tapped in a cross from Kaoru Mitoma, marking his sixth goal in 16 appearances against his former team. Amad Diallo later brought United level with an hour gone, scoring after his shot deflected off Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke.

Joshua Zirkzee stopped Alejandro Garnacho from giving the visitors the lead in the final moments by clearing the ball off the line after Garnacho had tapped in a teammate’s shot.
Zirkzee, who joined from Bologna during the off-season, was found to be in an offside position, leading to VAR disallowing the goal.
Completely unguarded at the far post, Brazilian forward Pedro added to United’s misery by heading in Simon Adingra’s cross. This goal confirmed that Brighton’s manager, Fabian Hurzeler, preserved his perfect record following last weekend’s victory over Everton.
At 31, Hurzeler is the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history, having taken over from Roberto De Zerbi after moving from St Pauli in the off-season.
“My team deserved to win. These moments make memories and we have to enjoy it,” Hurzeler said.
Ten Hag added: “Both goals are very soft. As a team, we should have done better. We have to be more clinical in both boxes.”
City responded to an early threat from promoted Ipswich at the Etihad Stadium by scoring three goals in just four minutes.
Ipswich stunned City when Sammie Szmodics, a summer signing from Blackburn, took advantage of Omari Hutchinson’s pass and managed to slot the ball past Ederson in the seventh minute.
City equalized when Leif Davis fouled Savinho in the 12th minute, allowing Haaland to convert the resulting penalty.
Ipswich goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, who spent four years with City before his 2022 departure, made an error that benefitted his former team. In the 14th minute, Kevin De Bruyne seized the ball from Muric and scored.
City extended their lead to three when the unstoppable Haaland deftly directed De Bruyne’s precise pass past Muric.
German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who rejoined City from Barcelona on a one-year deal last Friday, came off the bench in the second half.
Haaland completed his hat-trick in the 88th minute with a characteristic sharp finish, bringing his season tally to four goals.
Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma won back the favor of manager Ange Postecoglou with a brilliant goal that helped secure a 4-0 victory over Everton in north London.
Postecoglou selected Bissouma after a one-game suspension related to a social media video in which Bissouma was seen inhaling nitrous oxide.
“You know what it’s like when you punish your child and they do everything right for the next two days?” Postecoglou had said of Bissouma’s return.
The Mali international took full advantage of his opportunity in the 14th minute, scoring from the edge of the box for his first league goal for Tottenham in his 52nd match.
In the 25th minute, Son Heung-min extended Tottenham’s lead, capitalizing on a blunder by Jordan Pickford, as the South Korean forward seized the ball from the Everton goalkeeper to score.
Cristian Romero added Tottenham’s third goal with a header in the 71st minute, and Son completed his brace with a precise finish six minutes later.
West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui secured his first victory with the team as second-half goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen led to a 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.
Alex Iwobi scored in the 70th minute to give Fulham a 2-1 triumph over Leicester at Craven Cottage, following Wout Faes’ equalizer for the visitors after Emile Smith Rowe’s first-half goal for Fulham.
Nottingham Forest achieved a 1-0 victory at Southampton with a 70th-minute goal from Morgan Gibbs-White.
Title contenders Arsenal are set to face Aston Villa in the late game on Saturday.
