Manchester City will host Arsenal in a highly anticipated clash between the Premier League title favorites this Sunday. Both teams have been in impressive form, making this matchup crucial for their title aspirations. Meanwhile, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou finds himself under Pressure and urgently needs a victory as his side prepares to face Brentford. A win is essential for boosting team morale and silencing critics who are questioning the squad’s performance.
Liverpool will welcome Bournemouth to Anfield to bounce back from a surprising home defeat to Nottingham Forest. The Reds are determined to reclaim their winning momentum and make a strong statement after their recent setback. Additionally, Manchester United will aim to avenge their previous defeat as they make the trip to Crystal Palace. This matchup holds significant importance for United as they look to solidify their position in the league.
A clash between the top two teams features Manchester City’s unstoppable striker, Erling Haaland, facing Arsenal’s formidable defense.
Haaland has set a Premier League record by scoring nine goals in the opening four matches of the season.
However, Arsenal’s defense has been impressive. They conceded only once when they were down to 10 men against Brighton, and they have already kept clean sheets in away games against Aston Villa and Tottenham.
The top two teams from the last two seasons are again in those leading positions.
“It’s another unbelievable team that defend really well,” said City boss Pep Guardiola. “They don’t concede chances, they don’t concede goals. In many aspects they control everything.
“Was the biggest challenge for the title the last two seasons, they are there and will be there for many years because they created a depth of squad and a young team.”
City are the only team with a flawless 12 points so far, but a weakened Arsenal kept themselves just two points behind by securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Spurs in last weekend’s north London derby.
The Gunners will again be without captain Martin Degaard due to an ankle injury, but they can welcome Declan Rice back from suspension.
Meanwhile, City will also be missing their playmaker, Kevin De Bruyne, who limped off during Wednesday’s 0-0 Champions League draw against Inter Milan.
Arsenal’s third consecutive away derby victory at Tottenham has intensified scrutiny on Postecoglou.
Spurs have garnered only four points from their first four Premier League matches this season, and their performance has been declining for some time.
After a strong start under the former Australia manager, Tottenham have won just 13 of their last 32 league matches, suffering seven defeats in the last 11.
Postecoglou has stated that he aims to deliver silverware in his second season, but he narrowly avoided a League Cup exit to second-tier Coventry in midweek.
With upcoming trips to Manchester United and Brighton, Spurs need to stabilize their performance against a Brentford side that posed a challenge to City last weekend in a 2-1 defeat.
What a difference a week has made for United boss Erik ten Hag.
After consecutive defeats to Brighton and Liverpool, the Dutchman returned from the international break and faced pressure.
However, two victories and ten goals against Southampton and Barnsley have boosted morale ahead of the trip to Palace.
The low point of a disappointing league campaign last season arguably came with the Eagles’ 4-0 thrashing in May.
But Ten Hag believes this weekend will be different, as he is now equipped with options instead of grappling with an injury crisis.
“It was a 4-0, totally deserved, but Saturday will be different,” said Ten Hag. “From February onwards, we had to find 11 players to construct a team.
“Now it is 18 and we can pick one.”
