According to an ESPN source, United States midfielder Tanner Tessmann is poised to join Lyon following the club’s agreement with Venezia on a €7 million ($7.8 million) transfer fee.
The source indicated that Tessmann is scheduled to undergo a medical examination at the French club later on Saturday before finalizing a five-year contract.
The 22-year-old’s contract with Venezia has one year remaining, and he has settled on personal terms with Lyon, which American billionaire John Textor owns.
This transfer proceeds despite Lyon’s prior commitment to Ligue 1’s financial authority to generate €100 million ($111 million) from player sales this summer to avoid further financial restrictions from the league’s financial watchdog.
Tessmann made 20 Serie A appearances for Venezia before their relegation to Serie B at the end of the 2021-22 season. He was crucial in their promotion back to Italy’s top flight last season, missing only one match and contributing seven goals and three assists.
He has earned two caps for the senior U.S. men’s national team and made his debut in January 2021.
PARIS — Paris Saint-Germain appears to be thriving even in the absence of Kylian Mbappé.
PSG demolished Montpellier 6-0 on Friday, marking their second consecutive victory in the French league as they adjust to life without Mbappé, who moved to Real Madrid this offseason.
While PSG aims for its fourth consecutive league title, there were concerns that its hold on the trophy might weaken following the departure of its star forward. However, the team has so far proven otherwise, scoring 10 goals in its first two games.
“There have only been two games but I’m really pleased with what I’ve seen,” PSG coach Luis Enrique told DAZN.
“I’m very happy because it’s our first home game. We wanted to give the fans some joy. It was a perfect evening. I felt it in training, the intensity of the pressing increased,” he added.
“We scored six goals but we could have scored 10. Today was our night … the players were incredible. It’s a great feeling.”
Bradley Barcola started the scoring just three minutes in with a precise angled shot from nine yards, and Marco Asensio extended the lead with a low drive from the center of the box, set up by João Neves’s deft pass.
The 19-year-old Neves, who joined from Benfica in the offseason, notched his third assist in just two games.
Ousmane Dembélé delivered an impeccable pass, allowing Barcola to score an easy tap-in for the third goal eight minutes into the second half.
“I had a lot of fun, I felt free,” Barcola said. “The coach asked everyone to press together. You have to make a lot of effort but get used to it as you go along.
“I’ve realised that I can make a difference. Pushing the ball like that on the first goal is something I’ve been doing since I was very young.”
Achraf Hakimi extended the lead to 4-0 with a side-footed volley in the 57th minute, and Warren Zaïre-Emery added another goal an hour into the match. Substitute Lee Kang-in capped off the scoring with his second goal in as many games, sealing the victory eight minutes before the final whistle.
Montpellier has earned just one point from their first two matches.
Bradley Barcola scored twice as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain thrashed Montpellier 6-0 in their first home match on Friday.
PSG dominated the game at the Parc des Princes, securing their second consecutive win following a 4-1 triumph at Le Havre in last week’s season opener.
Barcola opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute after a dazzling solo run down the left wing. Marco Asensio doubled PSG’s lead in the 24th minute with a goal resulting from a slick team move that exploited Montpellier’s weak defense.
Barcola added his second goal eight minutes into the second half with a simple tap-in from an Ousmane Dembélé pass. Achraf Hakimi extended the lead with a composed finish from a precise long-range cross by Nuno Mendes five minutes later.
Warren Zaire-Emery got on the scoresheet in the 60th minute with another assist from Dembélé, and substitute Lee Kang-in completed the rout with a superb strike from the edge of the box eight minutes before the final whistle.
