Lyon Signs Tanner Tessmann from USMNT as Club’s First American Acquisition – Ligue 1

Lyon announced on Tuesday that they have acquired USMNT player Tanner Tessmann from Venezia, according to a statement from the Ligue 1 team.

Tessmann has agreed to a contract extending until June 30, 2029, following ESPN’s report that the teams settled on a transfer fee of €7 million ($7.8 million).

At 22 years old, Tessmann has spent the past three seasons with Venezia, playing in both Serie A and Serie B.

“Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to welcome Tanner Tessmann, who becomes the first American in history to wear the club’s jersey,” the club said in a statement.

Lyon, which American billionaire John Textor owns, is aiming to secure its first points of the season after starting with two defeats.

Tessmann appeared in 20 Serie A matches for Venezia before the team was demoted to Serie B at the end of the 2021-22 season. He played a crucial role in the club’s return to Italy’s top tier last season, missing only one game and adding seven goals and three assists.

He has earned two caps for the senior U.S. men’s national team and made his debut in January 2021.

Manuel Ugarte transfer agreed by Man United, PSG – source

According to ESPN sources, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have reached an agreement to transfer midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The deal is valued at an initial £42 million ($55.5 million), with an additional £8 million potentially due in add-ons. Ugarte is expected to travel to Manchester on Tuesday to undergo a medical examination and finalize the transfer.

If international clearance is obtained, the 23-year-old may debut against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Uruguayan international has been Manchester United’s primary midfield target this summer, pushing their total spending during the transfer window to over £180 million.

To balance the books, the club plans to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli, having agreed on a £25 million fee. McTominay is set to discuss personal terms with the Italian club, and he could undergo his medical as soon as Tuesday.

Sources indicate that Ugarte strongly desired to join United, leading to his exclusion from PSG’s first two Ligue 1 matches against Le Havre and Montpellier.

Ugarte, who joined PSG from Sporting CP for £50 million last year, made 37 appearances for the French club last season.

United also plans to facilitate additional departures before the transfer deadline on Friday. Midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is set to move to Championship side Burnley following a medical on Monday.

The club is also considering selling defender Victor Lindelöf, although a toe injury has kept the Sweden international sidelined.

Additionally, Juventus and Chelsea continue to show interest in winger Jadon Sancho, who could be sold if a suitable offer is received before the deadline.

Greenwood Strikes Late to Secure a Draw for Marseille

Mason Greenwood rescued a point for Marseille with his third goal of the Ligue 1 season in a 2-2 draw against Reims at the Vélodrome on Sunday.

Marseille initially took the lead with a goal from Amine Harit, but their defense faltered, allowing Reims to score through Yaya Kader Fofana and Sergio Akieme.

Greenwood, who scored twice in his Marseille debut during a 5-1 win over Brest, made a high-profile move to the club from Manchester United this summer. According to ESPN sources, Greenwood is expected to switch his international allegiance from England to Jamaica. He has become the first Marseille player to net three goals in the season’s opening two games since Dimitri Payet in 2013.

Despite Greenwood’s late goal-preventing defeat in his first league match at the Vélodrome, Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed dissatisfaction with the overall outcome.

“I’m disappointed and annoyed. I’m sorry, I would have liked to have won this first game at the Velodrome. I feel a huge responsibility with these fans,” De Zerbi said to DAZN.

Strasbourg secured its first league win with a spirited 3-1 victory over Rennes. Andrey Santos got Strasbourg on the board in the 23rd minute, taking advantage of a corner kick.

Emanuel Emegha extended Strasbourg’s lead early in the second half. While Ludovic Blas managed to score for Rennes, a late own goal by Christopher Wooh ensured Strasbourg’s triumph. ThStrasbourg’s fans, who had previously protested against the team’s ownership, ended the day celebrating a well-earned victory.

Nantes snapped a 10-game home winless streak by defeating newly promoted Auxerre 2-0 at Stade de la Beaujoire. Nigerian forward Moses Simon opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a superb solo effort.

Auxerre had several opportunities but could not convert, and their chances were further diminished when Ado Onaiwu was dismissed in the 52nd minute for a dangerous tackle. Bahereba Guirassy added a second goal for Nantes in stoppage time.

Lens defeated Brest 2-0, thanks to an early goal from Jhoanner Chavez and Julien Le Cardinal’s own goal. However, Lens lost Deiver Machado to a red card in the 88th minute.

On Sunday, Nice and Toulouse drew 1-1 on a pitch affected by a fungal infection. American defender Mark McKenzie made his Toulouse debut following his transfer from Belgium’s Belgium’s
