Official: Samuel Iling-Junior Joins Bologna on Loan from Aston Villa – Ligue 1

Aston Villa’s Samuel Iling-Junior has completed a loan move to Bologna, returning to Serie A just two months after his permanent transfer from Juventus to the Premier League club. The 20-year-old winger is eager to make an impact in Italy’s top flight and will have the opportunity to showcase his talents on the European stage as Bologna competes in the Champions League this season.

Iling-Junior expressed his excitement for this new chapter in his career, citing his determination to contribute to Bologna’s success. The loan agreement, sanctioned by Aston Villa during the summer transfer window, will provide the young English talent with valuable experience and development opportunities. With a promising debut for Bologna under his belt, Iling-Junior looks to build on his early success and continue making a name for himself in Serie A.

“Bologna FC 1909 can announce that forward Samuel Iling-Junior has joined the Club on loan from Aston Villa FC until 30 June 2025,” the Rossoblu said in a statement.

The loan agreement does not include an option to buy, indicating that the 20-year-old winger is expected to return to Aston Villa at the end of the season. Iling-Junior’s arrival at Bologna comes in response to an unfortunate knee injury suffered by fellow winger Nicolò Cambiaghi, who is anticipated to be sidelined for several months.

Bologna recognized the need to reinforce their attacking options following Cambiaghi’s injury and identified Iling-Junior as an ideal candidate. Known for his versatility as an offensive winger capable of playing on either side of the pitch, the young English talent is expected to significantly contribute to the team throughout his loan spell. With a strong debut already under his belt, Iling-Junior has the potential to play a vital role in Bologna’s quest for success this season.

“The fourth British player in Club history, he is an offensive winger capable of playing on either side,” Bologna continued.

“Extremely quick, explosive, gifted with a skill for powerful acceleration on the ball and dribbling capabilities, he knows how to build an advantage and is dangerous from a distance.

“With a notable athletic and aerobic capacity, his style of play consists of continuous runs and one-to-one plays that often bring him into the opposition box where he also manages to make an impact in terms of assists.

“A Chelsea wonderkid, he played for the England National Team at youth level (up to U21). He made his professional football debut with Juventus, alternating between a spot in their Serie C formation and Allegri’s senior side. He shone in his first appearances for the Bianconeri and secured himself a regular place in the First Team from December 2022. Despite the competition with Kostic and Cambiaso, he picked up 36 appearances in the top division in a year and a half, contributing to the Coppa Italia title win. He moved back to his home nation with the sale to Aston Villa at the start of July 2024, fresh from Champions League qualifying, and now joins the Rossoblù from the Birmingham side.”

Iling-Junior, a talented winger who began his career at Chelsea, brings a wealth of experience to Bologna. He has played 36 games in Serie A, scoring two goals and providing three assists. His time in Italy includes a successful stint at Juventus, where he won the Coppa Italia last season.

In July, Aston Villa secured the services of Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea from Juventus for a combined fee of €22 million. The Englishman’s return to Serie A on loan from Aston Villa is a testament to his abilities and potential. As he embarks on this new chapter with Bologna, Iling-Junior is poised to contribute his skills and experience to help the team excel domestically and in the prestigious Champions League.
