Juventus head coach Thiago Motta has recently emphasized the significance of Weston McKennie to the team, referring to the American midfielder as a “valuable” player for the Italian club. Motta has also commented on the potential of young American forward Timothy Weah, stating that Weah is “predisposed” to improve and develop his skills further.
McKennie and Weah are expected to be available for Juventus’ upcoming Serie A opener against Como on August 19th. Despite initial concerns about McKennie’s role in the team during preseason, Motta has since reintegrated the player into the first team following a meeting between the two. McKennie has regained the trust and support of his coach, which bodes well for his future contributions to Juventus.
In recent training sessions, Motta has experimented with deploying McKennie in a new position, hinting at utilizing the midfielder’s skills in different pitch areas. Motta’s tactical adjustments and faith in the potential of both McKennie and Weah demonstrate his commitment to maximizing the talent available to him and fostering growth within the team. As Juventus embarks on a new season, fans will watch closely how these developments play out on the field.
“McKennie is a valuable player for our needs. Tomorrow, we have 19 players available, and only 11 can play,” Motta said at a press conference on Sunday
In contrast to McKennie’s situation, his American teammate Timothy Weah has had a strong preseason with Juventus. Weah was a consistent starter throughout the preseason, which showcased his abilities as one of the most convincing players on the pitch. His performances have solidified his position in the team and demonstrated his readiness for the upcoming Serie A season.
Weah’s contributions during preseason have been awe-inspiring, with his versatility and skill on display for all to see. This has earned him the trust and confidence of coach Thiago Motta, who has continued to rely on the young American in various matches. With his strong work ethic and undeniable talent, Timothy Weah has proven to be an asset for Juventus and a promising prospect for the future.
“Weah can still improve in everything, but he is predisposed to do it,” argued Motta.
“I am not surprised. I knew him when he was very young, and now he is the right age to do well. Surely, he will help the team.”
According to multiple reliable sources, including Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma has received approval from Stade Rennes to transfer talented right-back Lorenz Assignon. The deal is reportedly structured as a loan with a unique option-to-buy clause, which could see the French defender join the Italian club permanently.
The agreement involves an initial loan fee of approximately €1.5 million, with a further €8.5 million obligation to buy that will be activated upon meeting certain conditions. This brings the total potential fee for Assignon’s services to €10 million. Last season, the 22-year-old made 20 appearances for Rennes before joining Burnley on loan in the Premier League, where he contributed one goal and two assists across 15 matches. With Rennes warming up to a loan deal with a mandatory buy clause, Roma appears to be closing in on their target as they seek to bolster their defensive options.
Reports suggest that the ‘conditions’ for activating the obligation to buy clause are straightforward – Lorenz Assignon needs to make his first competitive appearance for Roma. This effectively transforms the deal into a commitment to buy in disguise.
In addition, Assignon is set to receive a substantial pay increase, with his current salary of €0.75 million per season reportedly doubling upon joining the Giallorossi. This financial incentive further demonstrates Roma’s commitment to securing the talented right-back’s services.
Assignon’s eagerness to join Roma is further fueled by the opportunity to reunite with his former Stade Rennes teammate, Enzo Le Fée. The prospect of rekindling their on-field chemistry undoubtedly adds another layer of excitement for the 24-year-old Frenchman.
With a successful loan spell at Burnley during the previous season, Assignon appears primed to make an impact in the Italian capital. As Roma looks to strengthen their defensive options, the club has found an ideal candidate in the young and talented Lorenz Assignon.
