Ivan Juric insists Roma ‘limited Inter in almost every way’ and has regrets over the decisive goal, but is confident ‘the results will come.’

The Giallorossi find themselves in a precarious position, as their recent form has taken a sharp downturn. Over their last three competitive matches, they’ve only managed to secure one point, a disappointing outcome for a team with high expectations. What makes matters worse is their struggle in front of goal—despite multiple attacking efforts, they’ve found the back of the net just once in this stretch. This lack of offensive productivity is becoming a serious concern for the team, as it undermines their ability to compete effectively in key matches.

During tonight’s game at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma did have their fair share of chances to change the narrative. The team pressed forward, with several of their attacks testing Inter’s goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, who was forced to make important saves throughout the match. On one occasion, Roma came agonizingly close to scoring, only to be denied by the woodwork. However, Inter also posed a threat with their own chances, making it a tightly contested match where both teams were just inches away from taking the lead at various points.

The decisive moment of the game arrived at the hour mark, shifting the balance in Inter’s favor. It began with a Roma corner, but things quickly went wrong for the home side. Nicola Zalewski lost his footing, causing him to stumble and lose control of the situation. The ball was then played across the box by Davide Frattesi, and Zeki Celik had an opportunity to cut out the cross but failed to do so. This allowed Lautaro Martinez to pounce on the chance, slotting the ball into the net and securing the crucial goal that would ultimately decide the outcome of the match.

Juric defends Roma performance

“I think we started too timid, I didn’t like the first 15 minutes, but after that we did really well until the goal. The goal was just an accident and you pay a heavy price for that at this level,” Juric told DAZN.

“We had a lot of chances, but we also made too many technical errors and that was a gift to Inter. We definitely need to raise the quality level in the final third and that will make us more effective.

“I thought this evening we limited Inter in almost every way and it is a real pity we emerge empty-handed.”

Paulo Dybala raced back in an effort to help defend the goal, but despite his attempt to block Lautaro Martinez’s shot by throwing himself in its path, he was unable to prevent it from finding the back of the net.

“I have a lot of work to do with him, he needs to exchange places with his teammates to take some of the pressure off and limit the number of times he has to track back. With a little more organisation and understanding, we can see the players have to run less to cover those spaces.”

Inter were already grappling with injury concerns leading up to the match, as they traveled without Piotr Zielinski and Kristjan Asllani. Their situation worsened early on when both Hakan Calhanoglu and Francesco Acerbi were forced off within the first 30 minutes due to muscle injuries.

Meanwhile, Roma fans expressed their frustration with the club’s overall direction, staging a protest by leaving the Curva Sud empty for the first 15 minutes of the game. The stands remained vacant except for banners directed at the club’s ownership, specifically criticizing the Friedkin family.

“The only way to bring people back together is with results. I think the fans were pleased with many things about the performance tonight, but we need results and the rest is just chatter. I think the way the players sacrifice themselves for the team is fantastic and if they continue like this, we will get results,” insisted Juric.

“I realise this is the situation, the players who are jeered must try to be strong, but it had been a long time since Roma played this well against Inter. If we keep that up, the results will come.”
