The 2024/25 Serie A season has arrived! From the anticipated scudetto winners to the teams facing relegation, the Total Italian Football team has shared our predictions. Get ready to share your thoughts and maybe even disagree!
Did you miss it? The 2024/25 Serie A season is kicking off! Newcomers Parma, Venezia, and Como 1907 have joined the league after their promotion from Serie B, while reigning champions Inter aim for a more robust title defense than Napoli and AC Milan managed in recent seasons.
Milan is expected to be a leading contender, eager to challenge their cross-city rivals. Still, there needs to be more certainty surrounding Paulo Fonseca, who has taken over from Stefano Pioli. Juventus, under Thiago Motta, is navigating significant changes, and Napoli, managed by Antonio Conte (at least for now), could emerge as a dark horse, especially without the distractions of European football.
One thing is clear: the next ten months hold immense promise. The Total Italian Football team is here and ready to share our bold pre-season predictions for the 2024/25 campaign—embarrassment guaranteed. I love to hear your Serie A predictions, too, so feel free to share why you think you’re off the mark!
Conor Clancy’s Serie A Prediction: my predictions shifted between recording the preview podcast and writing this piece, especially with Roma pushing Paulo Dybala out the door before the transfer window closes.
Top Four (Ordered 1-4): Inter, AC Milan, Juventus, Napoli.
European Places (5-7): Atalanta, AS Roma, Torino.
Relegated (18-20): Empoli, Parma, Venezia.
Something to Watch Out For: I predicted Torino would surprise us last Season and qualify for Europe. Still, only Fiorentina let them down by failing to win the Europa Conference League, which would have secured an extra spot for Serie I’m optimistic about Torino again this Season, driven more by hope than logic. Duvan Zapata as captain really resonates with me.
I’d like to see a call for wild coaching changes this Season, which intrigues me. However, it could complicate our ongoing “g “every co “ch” article. I’m also bracing for some VAR controversies, especially now that it has its own sponsor. Expect conspiracy theorists to claim this means VAR must be utilized several times per televised match!
Top Four (Ordered 1-4): Inter, AC Milan, Juventus, AS Roma.
European Places (5-7): Atalanta, Napoli, Lazio.
Relegated (18-20): Empoli, Venezia, Verona.
Something to Watch Out For: Remember when the PAOK president stormed the pitch to confront a referee while armed? I wouldn’t be surprised if Aurelio De Laurentiis tried to recreate that moment!
I’d like to see this Season. I’d love to see a team attempt to break the record for the most coaches in a single season. Salernitana managed four last time, and teams like Empoli or Verona could aim for that dubious honor.
Top Four (Ordered 1-4): Inter, Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli.
European Places (5-7): Napoli, Bologna, AS Roma.
Relegated (18-20): Lecce, Parma, Venezia.
Something to Watch Out For: With 13 new Serie A coaches appointed this summer, this could be a record-breaking season for managerial departures. The high-profile exits of recently hired Antonio Conte at Napoli or Paulo Fonseca at Milan are certainly possible if they can’t get off to a strong start.
What I’d like to see this Season: Last Season, we almost witnessed all three promoted clubs stay in Serie A for the first time in nearly two decades, but Frosino couldn’t avoid relegation. This year, despite the limited strength of two promoted teams—Parma and Venezia- I’d like to see all three newcomers survive, even if my predictions suggest otherwise.
Top Four (Ordered 1-4): Inter, AC Milan, Juventus, AS Roma.
European Places (5-7): Napoli, Atalanta, Fiorentina.
Relegated (18-20): Empoli, Como, Venezia.
Something to Watch Out For: Tensions at Lazio are brewing. The already strained relationship between fans and president Claudio Lotito could reach a breaking point following Marco Baroni’s underwhelming appointment and a disappointing transfer window. With stalwarts like Ciro Immobile, Luis Alberto, and Felipe Anderson departing, the need for significant new signings raises concerns.
What’d Like to See This Season: The dominant scudetto run in 2023, Inter’ sr’s near-lock on the title by Easter last Season, and Serie A need a thrilling title race that goes down to the wire. It would be exciting to see the championship battle remain alive until the final round of fixtures.
Top Four (Ordered 1-4): Juventus, Napoli, AC Milan, Inter.
European Places (5-7): AS Roma, Fiorentina, Atalanta.
Relegated (18-20): Venezia, Empoli, Hellas Verona.
Something to Watch Out For: Watch for the impacts of Raffaele Palladino and Paolo Vanoli at Fiorentina and Torino, respectively. Also, watch for Kenan Yildiz’s development under Thiago Motta and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who could emerge as Napoli’s leading scorer with Antonio Conte at the helm.
What I’d Like to See This Season: I hope to see Matias Soule in contention for the Serie A Player of the Season award, Tijjani Reijnders scoring 8-10 goals, and Yann Bisseck becoming a regular starter under Simone Inzaghi.
Top Four (Ordered 1-4): Inter, Napoli, Atalanta, AC Milan.
European Places (5-7): Juventus, AS Roma, Fiorentina.
Relegated (18-20): Empoli, Hellas Verona, Venezia.
Something to Watch Out For: I’ll refrain from mentioning Como, but we could see another surprise European qualifier similar to Bologna’s recent success. There is no significant gap between usual suspects like Roma, Lazio, and Fiorentina and the mid-table contenders. Could Genoa, Torino, or Monza rise from mid-table obscurity? Or those noisy teams from Lombardy?
I’d like to see this Season, so I’m hoping for a more competitive title race. While we appreciate the variety of winners in recent years, a 19-point gap last Season made it less enjoyable. It won’t be easy, especially with many teams undergoing transitions.
Top Four (Ordered 1-4): AC Milan, Inter, Juventus, AS Roma.
European Places (5-7): Atalanta, Napoli, Bologna.
Relegated (18-20): Cagliari, Como, Venezia.
Something to Watch Out For: Watch for Bologna to defy the odds once again. Early in the 2023/24 season, many anticipated Bologna would be dismantled in the transfer window. While they have lost Thiago Motta, Joshua Zirkzee, and Riccardo Calafiori, they’ve made some astute signings. Additionally, Vincenzo Italiano’s move to the Rossoblu could reinvigorate the team. While Champions League qualification might be a stretch, I see potential for another year in Europe.
What I’d like to see this Season: Last year title race was lackluster, with many feeling Inter had already secured the championship by Christmas. This Season, we desperately need more intrigue. With AC Milan and Juventus undergoing renovations and Inter’s squad aging, it would be almost laughable if Simone Inzaghi and his Nerazzurri wrapped up the league even earlier than last year.
