Vinicius Junior struck twice while Jude Bellingham also scored for Real Madrid as they thrashed Alaves 5-0 in front of a home crowd who were only this weekend celebrating a 36th league title with their team. There were also goals for Federico Valverde and Arda Guler on the night.
Real Madrid celebrated their 36th La Liga title in style, beating Alaves 5-0 at home on Tuesday night.
In a very open game, the result flattered Real, with Thibaut Courtois making ten saves to deny the visiting side.
Jude Bellingham opened the scoring with his 19th of the season, bringing him within one of league-leading scorer Artem Dovbyk, albeit in fortuitous circumstances when a miss-hit cross drifted inside the far post.
The hosts scored twice before halftime, with Vinicius Junior netting from close range and Fede Valverde arrowing an effort inside the top right corner.
Bellingham laid on the fourth for Vinicius Junior. Then Rodrygo’s deflected effort ran into the path of substitute Arda Guler, who made no mistake.
Real now lie 17 points clear at the top of the table; Alaves are back in 11th.
Thibaut Courtois appears primed for the Champions League final after completing his third full 90 minutes in a row. Following a preseason ACL injury that sidelined him for much of the 2023/24 campaign, Courtois has been racing to regain fitness for Real Madrid’s crucial end-of-season matches and the upcoming European Championships for Belgium. Despite a minor meniscus surgery last month, Courtois showed no signs of rust, making nine saves, including two crucial ones in the opening minute.
Courtois was particularly sharp in the second half, stopping efforts from Ianis Hagi and Samuel Omorodion. While Andriy Lunin has performed admirably during Courtois’ absence, if the Belgian is fit—and this performance suggests he is—he will undoubtedly start in the final.
Jude Bellingham returned to his best form, delivering a standout performance. He led the match with six key passes. He provided two assists, signaling his readiness for the upcoming final at Wembley and the Euros this summer. After a dip in recent form, this display was a welcome return to the dominant Bellingham seen earlier in the season.
