Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappé left Mallorca with less than they had hoped, as the island hosts fought back to secure a 1-1 draw. Rodrygo gave Los Blancos the lead after a brilliant combination on the left flank involving Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., and Mbappé. Still, Vedat Muriqi’s second-half header ensured Mallorca earned a share of the spoils, frustrating Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Muriqi’s powerful header secured a well-deserved point for Real Mallorca after Rodrygo had put Madrid ahead in their La Liga opener. Mallorca began strongly, but Madrid’s superior quality eventually shone through. In the 13th minute, Vinicius Jr. orchestrated a clever backheel in a sustained left-wing attack, setting up Rodrygo to curl in a superb finish.
Despite the early lead, Madrid seemed to hold back, while Mallorca remained sharp, well-organized, and courageous in possession. It came as little surprise when Muriqi headed in the equalizer in the 53rd minute.
Both teams pushed for a winner, but Mallorca eventually settled into a more defensive posture. They came closest in the dying minutes, but they couldn’t turn their late counters into a decisive goal.
No club excels at signing big names like Real Madrid, and this current team, while still finding its rhythm, can already produce brilliant moments and stunning goals. However, in both matches this week, they’ve shown vulnerability.
Despite having talented defenders, with Antonio Rudiger being the standout, the rest of the backline isn’t necessarily among the world’s elite. While Madrid will dominate possession in most games, they don’t control the ball with the precision of a Pep Guardiola team, meaning they’ll always give their opponents opportunities.
Of course, converting those chances against Madrid is no easy task. Still, both Atalanta and Mallorca have exposed weaknesses that could persist even when the team is fully fit and settled.
Mallorca delivered a massive team effort, and Muriqi’s goal was well-deserved. Beyond his equalizer, he embodied the team’s aggression and determination throughout the game.
4′ – Strong Start from Mallorca:
Darder delivers a cross into the box, which Militao heads clear. The ball returns, and Rodriguez turns sharply to fire a low shot just wide of the near post. Mallorca is looking dangerous early on.
13′ – Goal! Real Mallorca 0-1 Real Madrid (Rodrigo):
Bellingham and Mbappé link up beautifully on the left side, with Bellingham sliding a pass into Mbappé in the box. He finds Vinicius, who cleverly backheels the ball to Rodrygo. With a slick move, Rodrygo shifts inside to create space and curls a sublime shot into the far side-netting. That is a brilliant goal from Madrid.
37′ – Left Unmarked:
Maffeo floats a cross into the box, perfectly picking out Rodriguez, but his header from 15 yards flies over the bar. A missed opportunity for Mallorca.
53′ – Goal! Real Mallorca 1-1 Real Madrid (Muriqi):
A thunderous header! An inswinging cross finds Muriqi at the back post, and he powers a header into the near corner. A fantastic equalizer from Mallorca.
70′ – Vinicius on the Attack:
Vinicius charges forward but is stopped by Costa. Madrid keeps up the pressure as the ball is worked to Bellingham, who sets up Mbappé. Greif blocks his shot, and as the ball is recycled, Mojica makes a crucial interception to deny Rodrygo. End-to-end action!
87′ – Larin Breaks Through!
Larin bursts down the left, beating Militao one-on-one. He cuts the ball back, but Mendy steps in to block one shot, and another attempt zips just wide of the post. Mallorca threatened late in the game!
89′ – Larin Again!
Larin escaped down the flank once more, delivering a dangerous ball into the path of the onrushing Sanchez. However, Sanchez loses composure and wildly fires the shot high and wide. A golden chance missed!
