Kylian Mbappé made a stunning La Liga debut for Real Madrid with a brace, leading his new team to a 2-0 victory over Real Betis. These were the French forward’s first goals in Spain’s top flight since his summer transfer from PSG. The 25-year-old had previously scored in Real Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup win against Atalanta. This latest win propels Carlo Ancelotti’s squad to second place in the La Liga standings with eight points, trailing leaders Barcelona, who have 12 points from four matches.
On Sunday, Mbappé found his scoring touch with two goals in a rapid sequence during the second half. He broke the deadlock by finishing off a brilliant pass from Federico Valverde. He later converted a penalty after a VAR review overturned an initial offside decision against Vinícius Júnior, who Betis goalkeeper Rui Silva had fouled.
Vinícius Júnior was the standout Player for Real Madrid in a revitalized second-half performance, coming close to scoring with a shot that struck the woodwork. Betis, who had shown promise before halftime, struggled to match Madrid’s intensity after the break and offered little resistance following Mbappé’s two goals. The win reduces Madrid’s gap to La Liga leaders Barcelona to just four points.
Betis had an early opportunity through Abde Ezzalzouli, whose header should have been more precise. Madrid responded ten minutes later when Rui Silva saved Eder Militao’s header, and his follow-up effort went wide. Mbappé also missed a chance after a Vinícius cutback, with his shot going wide, but Madrid only began to click into gear in the second half.
Carlo Ancelotti’s halftime team talk inspired Madrid. Vinícius’ deflected shot hit the post, and though Mbappé’s rebound attempt was initially ruled out for offside, he soon found his scoring touch. In the 67th minute, Mbappé calmly finished a chance set up by Valverde’s excellent play. Shortly after, a VAR review confirmed Vinícius was onside when fouled by Silva, and Mbappé converted the resulting penalty to secure the victory.
After a frustrating wait, Kylian Mbappe finally found the back of the net in La Liga. He had taken 24 shots before scoring his first goal, with eight on target, six off target, and then blocked. For the first hour of the match, it seemed his goal drought might continue beyond the international break. But when his moment arrived, Mbappe stayed composed, coolly finishing past Silva. He later added to his tally with a confident penalty, officially getting his La Liga campaign underway.
While Vinicius Jr. performed an impressive second half, Mbappe stole the spotlight and deserved the Player of the Match title. With his two goals, Mbappe became only the fourth Real Madrid player in the 21st century to score his first two La Liga goals in a single match. He joins an elite list of players, including Ronaldo Nazario, Javier Hernandez, Dani Ceballos, and Ruud van Nistelrooy—who went one step further and scored a hat-trick.

Betis threatened early with a dangerous cross from Perraud on the left flank, finding Ezzalzouli in space. With much of the goal to aim at, he misjudges his header and sends it over the bar—a warning shot for Madrid!
Madrid nearly took the lead! Militao rises to meet a corner with a powerful header, but Silva makes an impressive save. The rebound falls back to Militao, but he can only make a sharp-angle hit on the side netting.
Vinicius comes close to breaking the deadlock with a shot from the edge of the box, taking a deflection that rattles the post. The ball rebounds to Mbappe, who slices his shot over the bar, but the offside flag spares him from embarrassment.
Finally, Madrid strikes! Rodrygo weaves through defenders on the right before finding Valverde, whose brilliant flick puts Mbappe through. Mbappe stays onside, reacts quickly, and coolly slides the ball past Silva for his first La Liga goal.
Vinicius was onside in the build-up, leading the referee to reverse his decision and award a penalty. Mbappe steps up to take it. Can he secure his second goal?
Mbappe makes no mistake from the spot, sending Silva the wrong way and slotting the penalty calmly into the net. That’s his second La Liga goal of the night, and Madrid looks set for victory at 2-0.
Mbappe’s two-goal performance not only secures the win for Real Madrid but also marks his breakthrough in La Liga as the Frenchman starts to deliver on his massive expectations.
