Casa Pia aims for its third straight win this Sunday when it travels to the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos to take on Gil Vicente in the sixth round of the Primeira Liga.
The Gilistas enter the weekend on a high note, boasting an unbeaten record in their last five matches against their upcoming opponents. Gil Vicente settled for a draw for the third consecutive match, playing to a 1-1 tie against Famalicao when the two teams faced off at the Estadio Municipal de Famalicao last Saturday.
Spanish forward Mario Gonzalez opened the scoring for Famalicao in the 14th minute, putting them ahead. However, 23-year-old Felix Correia equalized four minutes into the second half, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
After starting the season with a 3-0 defeat to Porto at the Estadio do Dragao on August 10, Gil Vicente rebounded the following week with a 4-2 win over AVS. They have since recorded three consecutive draws against Estoril Praia, Braga, and Famalicao. Now returning home, Gil Vicente has only managed two victories in their last nine Primeira Liga matches, suffering three losses and four draws since February.
On the other hand, Casa Pia displayed impressive resilience last Saturday, coming from behind to secure a 3-1 victory against Moreirense at the Estadio Pina Manique. After falling behind to Madson Silva’s opener in the 35th minute, they surged back in the second half with goals from Duplexe Tchamba, Raul Garcia Gonzalez, and Nuno Moreira, turning the match around.
Before that, Joao Pereira’s side ended a three-match losing streak on August 31 by defeating Estrela Amadora 1-0 at the Estadio Jose Gomes, thanks to a second-half goal from Henrique Pereira. After finishing seventh last season, Casa Pia has collected six points from their first 15 this season, placing them 11th in the standings, tied on points with both Rio Ave and their hosts.
As Casa Pia aims for their third consecutive Primeira Liga win for the first time since October 2022, they face a tough challenge against a side they have struggled against in their last six meetings, recording four losses and one draw since October 2016.
Gil Vicente will be without Argentine midfielder Facundo Caseres, who has been sidelined since sustaining a meniscus injury in April. Aside from Caseres, who is expected to be the only absentee, head coach Bruno Pinheiro will have a primarily full-strength squad to choose from.
After providing assistance against Famalicao, Kanya Fujimoto contributed four goals this season. She will likely retain his spot in the starting lineup. Jordi Mboula, Caue, and Felix Correia will support him in the attack.
On the other hand, Casa Pia faces uncertainty with Portuguese forward Pereira. Injured in the 17th minute, he had to leave the match against Moreirense, making him a significant doubt for this weekend. In his absence, 25-year-old Nuno Moreira is expected to return to the starting lineup, joining summer signing Samuel Obeng and Spanish forward Blanco in the front three.
Additionally, Kiki Afonso and 23-year-old Claudio Mendes remain on the injury list for Casa Pia and will not participate in the match.
