Wolves Player Claims Age Shouldn’t Factor into Transfer Fee Talks – Primiera Liga

Since arriving at Wolverhampton Wanderers from FC Porto in 2020, Fábio Silva has encountered several challenges adapting to his new environment. The transition to a different league and playing style has posed difficulties, affecting his performance on the field.

On Thursday, the 22-year-old spoke to the Spanish media, with La Provincia relaying his quotes.

During the first half of last season, Silva played just 373 minutes across ten matches for Wolves, limiting his opportunities to impact the team significantly. Given the lack of playing time, it became clear that he needed a change to further his development. Gary O’Neil‘s management team recognized this need in January and sanctioned a loan move to Rangers. This decision proved to be beneficial for Silva’s career.

Silva secured regular playing time at Ibrox, allowing him to showcase his talents and gain invaluable experience. This consistent game action not only helped him regain his confidence but also allowed him to adapt to a different playing style and culture. As a result, his time at Rangers became a crucial period for his growth as a player, positioning him to make a more substantial contribution upon his return to Wolves.

When asked about the €40 million fee Wolves paid him, the Portuguese player emphasized that he did not influence the decision regarding his price tag.

“I came to succeed and in Scotland I think I succeeded because now I am in La Liga,” he stated.

“The issue of the €40m price tag is something that happened and I am not to blame. I try to do things well on the field. I’m 22 years old, people forget, I think I’m doing things well, naturally, that’s why I’m here.”

The Wolves player has had a series of loan spells at clubs like Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven, and Rangers, each offering him valuable experience in different competitive environments. However, this recent move represents a significant step, as it is the first time the English club has allowed him to transfer to a top-five league. This opportunity showcases his potential and highlights Wolves’ confidence in his abilities to thrive at a higher level.

“It’s the first time that I’m in one of the five main leagues. Las Palmas are the ideal club. They have an idea of the game that I love and that’s attractive to the fans. For me it’s the perfect place,” Silva clarified.

“In life I learned that on a personal level things come naturally, I come because I’m a striker and I also live for goals. But I can play in many positions, wherever the coach wants.”
